The BLM is continuing needed renovations to facilities at the Virgin River Recreation Area Campground including remodeling restrooms and other infrastructure such as water, sewer, electrical upgrades, and resurfacing all of the asphalt areas. When the BLM reopens the campground and facilities, the renovations will provide for improved visitor experiences on these public lands. Due to the age and condition of infrastructure, unexpected delays have occurred during construction. We do not know at this time when the site will be reopened for public use.
If visitors prefer a developed campsite, they can check availability at the following campgrounds.
Baker Dam Recreation Area
Red Cliffs Recreation Area
Pine Valley Recreation Area
BLM lands are also open to dispersed camping. There are no fees required, but no bathroom utility or other services are provided. Camping is subject to a 14-day limit.

The Virgin River Gorge, where the Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area resides, provides a stunning and colorful mountain desert setting. The gorge mimics, on a smaller scale, the colorful layers and striking depths of the Grand Canyon. In fact, many of the very same geologic formations are present in both areas.
Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area is a first-come, first-served campground and day-use area located along I-15 approximately 20 miles southwest of St. George, Utah and 20 miles east of Mesquite, Nevada. The recreation area has easy access from Interstate-15 from Cedar Pocket Exit (Mile Post 18). Overnight-use fee is $8 per site (up to 2 vehicles) and day-use fee is $2 per vehicle.
